I wouldn't go oval for a first LC. The $250 round wide should be able to do everything a standard DO shape can do. Based on dimensions from the Crate and Barrel site, the round wide is 6.3" high vs 6.8" (5.5qt)/7.2" (7.25qt). If you're debating between the 5.5qt and 6.75qt, I don't think 1/2" makes that much of a difference for.
