This is the actual car the television family used in numerous episodes. George Barris custom car shop did a lot of work for Hollywood studios. One project his company was hired to complete was a family car for The Munsters, a show which only ran for two seasons but enjoys a cult following today.

The Munster's producers contracted George Barris to provide the Koach. Barris paid show car designer Tom Daniel $200 to design the car, and had it built at Barris Kustoms, first by Tex Smith, but finished by Dick Dean. The Munster Koach appeared in over twenty episodes throughout the series' two-year run, and was also seen in Munster, Go.

Not only was the Munsters car, Dragula, featured in the TV series but also in the movie, Munster, Go Home. It was the ideal promotional vehicle then, as in the above pic with George Barris and Eddie Munster, played by Butch Patrick. Butch Patrick even continued making public appearances with Dragula clones at a wide variety of events.

While the Addams' 1930 Packard touring car was rarely seen, the Munster Koach was a regular costar. The wild stretched-wheelbase, Model-T hot rod/hearse hybrid made its debut in episode four (Rock-A-Bye Munster), when Lily goes to a used-car lot to buy a car for husband Herman's birthday (she arrives in a 1937 Cadillac limo, by the way).

Barris Kustoms created the spooky hot rod dubbed the "Munster Koach" for the hit 1960's TV show "The Munsters." George Barris, Tex Smith, Tom Daniel, and Dick & Keith Dean all had a hand in this historic build. The car was built out of three Ford Model T bodies which brought the total length to 18 feet. The 133″ frame was hand-built.

And, although it only appeared in one full episode (season one, episode 36), it too lives on through eternity.

On The Munsters television series the car was created by Grandpa Munster so he could win back the Munster Koach, which Herman had lost in a drag race in the episode "Hot Rod Herman". The 1966 movie Munster, Go Home! features an alternate origin. After Herman crashes a Jaguar limousine owned (and raced) by the Munster family of England, Grandpa.

The Dragula is a 1964 drag car. It was built from a fiberglass coffin and is powered by a 289/350 hp Ford V8. The very special car was designed for an episode called "Hot Rod Herman.". During the episode, Eddie Munster convinced his father to race his friend's dad. Unfortunately, he lost the race and had to give up the family's Munster.

A clear canopy surrounds its purple driver's seat and cockpit, and the vehicle has been autographed by its builder, designer, and cast members from The Munsters. Mecum Auctions has listed the coffin car for sale at its 2022 Kissimmee, Florida auction, slated for January 6 to 15, 2022. There's no reserve on the car, but I bet it's going to.
